I Write to Think and Understand
I recently read Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami, and the following quote resonated with me:
"Which is why I am writing this book. To think. To understand. It just happens to be the way I'm made. I have to write things down to feel I fully comprehend them."
I keep a daily journal where every morning I write about my previous day, and about what I have in my mind at the moment. It's quite simple, and it doesn't take much time (usually less than 10min).
I like writing, It helps me sort my thoughts. It helps me make sense of how I felt the previous day and how I am feeling at the moment. It's almost like writing my thoughts helps iron the wrinkles in my mind that come up during the day. At the end of this simple process, I have a much better understanding of what happened and how I am feeling than I had before.
It's also very nice to go back and read past things? What did I do on the 2024-05-02? Apparently I had a troubled day writing my dissertation, and my girlfriend cooked a very good Indian dinner.
